Warming spaces open in Regina as extreme cold weather persists

The City of Regina and other community partners are directing the public to a number of drop-in warming spaces across the city for relief from the extreme cold.

Tuesday morning temperatures clocked in at -37 C with a wind chill of -46 C in Regina, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada. Plus temperatures are expected to arrive this weekend.

Until then, here’s a list of places to stay warm:

All Nations Hope Network and Awasiw, 3115 5th Ave.

Open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., and overnight from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. Weekend hours are 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.

They offer free breakfast, lunch and warm beverages. There is access to medicine and smudging, as well as clothes and food items when available. There are also some health services, such as sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing, vaccinations and immunizations.

Carmichael Outreach, 1510 12th Ave.

Open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and overnight seven days a week from 7:15 p.m. to 6:45 a.m.

Lunch is served until they run out of meals. Coffee, water and snacks are available all day. The facility also offers HIV and hepatitis C testing as well as Narcan kits.

Circle Project, 3433 5th Ave.

Open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Bagged lunches, coffee and water are available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The facility also offers winter gear, clothes and hygiene kits when available, in addition to Narcan kits.

John Howard Society, 1801 Toronto St.

Open weekdays from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.

This facility is for youth between 12 and 21 years of age and offers food and hygiene products.

Newo-Yotina Friendship Centre, 1635 11th Ave.

Open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and weekends from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The facility offers water, coffee, breakfast and lunch.

Queen City Wellness Pharmacy, 1725 11th Ave

Open Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Open Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Coffee is offered until 11 a.m. while snacks and water are available all day. There are also medical and first-aid supplies and smudging.

Salvation Army Haven of Hope, 2240 13th Ave.

Open Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Open Fridays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Coffee and bread are available as well as emergency food supplies. Free hot lunches are offered on Thursdays at 11:30 a.m.

Street Culture Project, 1314 11th Ave.

The emergency shelter is open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. for youth aged 19 and under. Bagged lunches and water are available.

SWAP, 1355 Albert St.

Open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Coffee and other supports are available for those warming up.

YWCA, 2817 12th Ave.

Open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.

While the facility is primarily for women and families, it also operates as a warming space with coffee and other supports.

The facility offers coffee, fruit, and light food with hot meals from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
