Claims of explosive powder on property
A 46-year-old woman was arrested Sunday afternoon after allegedly making several 911 calls to Brandon Police Service claiming someone was trying to blow up her house.
According to police, an anonymous woman called 911 multiple times stating a woman was sprinkling explosive powder on the caller’s property.
Officers conducted a search of the phone number and address and responded to the 200 block of Fourth Street. They said they found a woman who was drug-intoxicated, adding the claims were unfounded.
The woman was charged with breaching the peace, medically cleared and held in a BPS detention cell to be released once sober.
Robbery suspect kicks store employee
Video footage from a store in the city’s west end led to the arrest of a 26-year-old man police say stole merchandise and kicked a staff member.
Officers were called to a business on the 3400 block of Victoria Avenue Sunday at 2:38 p.m. They said a man had entered the store, put merchandise in a bag and, when confronted by staff, kicked a staff member and left.
Police said they were able to identify the suspect by looking at the video footage and then located him in the 3600 block of Victoria Avenue. He was charged with robbery with violence and held in a BPS detention cell for a court appearance on Monday.
Man threatens to set house on fire
A 39-year-old man who allegedly threatened to set a house on fire was charged with resisting arrest and a related assault.
Officers responded to a residence on McDonald Avenue at 4:22 p.m. on Sunday for a report that an assault was in progress.
When officers arrived, a 32-year-old woman was leaving the house and a man slammed the door shut and began barricading it, police said.
Officers were given authorization for forced entry, and said the man tried to get away by running to the basement and barricading the stairs. According to police, he threatened to set the house on fire.
The man was taken into custody, but officers said he resisted arrest as they were trying to get him into a police cruiser.
He was charged with assault and resisting arrest and held in a BPS detention cell until a scheduled court appearance on Monday.
Pair charged after cocaine seizure
Two men have been charged after the Manitoba First Nations Police Service executed a search warrant on Shingoose Road in Waywayseecappo First Nation on March 14 as part of a drug investigation.
MFNPS detachment officers, assisted by MFNPS criminal investigations and K9 units, seized approximately 108 grams of suspected cocaine at the residence, along with other items related to drug trafficking.
Darrell Leo Brandon, 65, and Tyler Dean Brandon, 29, both of Waywayseecappo First Nation, were charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking. Both have been remanded into custody.
