In upcoming scenes in the ITV soap, they’ll learn more about his teenage years that made him the man hi is today
Kit Green’s intentions have been questioned by Coronation Street fans ever since his arrival in Weatherfield. But in upcoming scenes in the ITV soap, they’ll learn more about his teenage years that made him the man hi is today.
As viewers already know, the detective constable, played by Jacob Roberts, made his on-screen debut after Bernie Winter went on a mission to find her long-lost son, Zodiac. When she found Kit, she posed as a cleaner to get into his house before rifling through his drawers.
When she was caught red-handed, Bernie had to explain why she was really there, but Kit lied and said he wasn’t adopted. However, it was later confirmed that Bernie had found her long-lost son and the pair didn’t have the best of starts.
Since then, particularly following the death of Bernie’s son, and Kit’s half-brother, Paul Foreman, Kit has softened towards his biological mum and half-sister Gemma but still hasn’t completely let his walls down and has continued to ruffle feathers elsewhere on the street.
But next week, Kit’s life flashes before his eyes and Corrie viewers will finally get an insight into the character’s young years – and his connection to newcomers Mick and Lou Michaelis.
When Mick sends Liam for bacon sarnies he fails to come back. Gary and Maria Windass soon find him skulking in the café and the teen eventually opens up about how Mick locked him in the tool shed.
Maria’s horrified and Gary returns to the yard to find Mick looking for something in the shed. Gary locks him in and gives him a taste of his own medicine before telling Mick he’s fired.
Mick later corners Gary outside and punches him to the ground. Grabbing an empty bottle, Gary staggers to his feet, but suddenly Kit steps between them, ordering Gary to drop the bottle and let Mick go.
Later at the police station, Kit denies seeing Mick do anything wrong and Gary is furious that he’s protecting Mick. As the aftermath of the drama unfolds,, at Kit’s flat Bernie finds a photo in the bin of two teenage boys.
Seeing it as a way into talk about the life he experienced without her in it, Bernie calls at Kit’s flat, hoping he’ll open up to her about what’s bothering him.
The special flashback episode then focuses on Kit’s childhood and shows a young Kit finding himself on the wrong side of the law, leading those watching to finding out what has made him the man he is today.
Three young actors take on the roles of Kit, Mick and Lou as we flick between their teenage years, the secrets that bind them together and their life as it is today.
Speaking about Mick’s hold over Kit and whether he’s scared about what could be exposed, actor Jacob told the Manchester Evening News and other press: “I wouldn’t say he’s scared. He knows he’s going to blackmail him but that’s not something Kit’s – he’s done that to many characters before. But it is a past he doesn’t want to bring up again.
“I suppose it’s like in real life where you have friends back in the day that you never want to meet any of your friends of today and you don’t want them to tell stories of back in the day. You want to keep that sort of stuff secret. But also, he [Mick] was his best mate back in the day.
“He was his best mate at 16 and I don’t know if that leaves you so he is protective of him at the time because Gary’s no angel as well but he knows Mick’s got something on him and I think if he blackmails him too much, he’ll react back. I think that’s what will happen with Kit, he’ll only take so much.”
Jacob, who joined Corrie in 2024 having appeared in Hollyoaks from 2017 to 2023, also told how he was delighted to be given the opportunity to explore his character’s past after less than a year on-screen.
“I was very grateful because I thought they must be focusing on my character as well and I must be doing something right with the character if they want to get to know him and find out why he is the way he is,” the soap star shared with us.
“It was really nice. It was exciting. I was very excited to see the flashback stuff and I was very excited to see what happened between these two characters [Mick and Kit]. It’s a funny one because it was obviously a different life he led back then and he’s changed it around but obviously Mick hasn’t so it was good to find out what actually happened.
“And he’s [Kit] not so innocent. It shows that he wasn’t so innocent back in the day and I don’t know if that innocence leaves you, ever.”
On meeting the actor who plays his younger character, Jacob said: “It was kind of strange looking at a younger version of yourself because I met the cast member playing that. It was nice to see. I got told by Kate [Brooks, Corrie’s producer] beforehand what actually went on with Mick and Kit so I knew a bit about the stoy…”
Jacob will mark a year on the cobbles in May, the same time his latest dramatic scenes air. Speaking about his time on the long-running show so far, he said: “I’ve loved it. Playing a detective constable in [Corrie], I’ve got to meet a lot of the cast members and I’ve got to work with everyone.
“So seeing how people work and trying to develop relationships with other people has been good – but I know there’s not much room for that with Kit.”
